As its name indicates, emotionally focused couples therapy focuses on the role of emotional experience in human growth.
It emphasizes a safe, non-judgmental relationship, in which couples explore and experiment to find the best solutions to their challenges.
Emotionally focused couples therapy supports couples to renew feelings of love and connection. It is proved to be effective in helping couples build trust, communication clearly and resolve conflict. EFT focuses on helping couples develop the tools necessary to express needs and desires in a safe way.
EFT understands couples’ issues in terms of the distress that is a natural reaction to a lack of security in intimate relationships.
The goal of Emotionally Focused therapy is to provide partners with both a “safe haven,” which they can turn to – for comfort, and a “secure base,” which supports their autonomy.
